After an unexpected poll verdict on Tuesday, Emkay Global has cut Nifty's target to 22,000 from 24,000. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP failed to secure majority, Emkay has said that it expects nil returns for the next 12 months. However, it has ruled-out any extended bear market.
<h3>Emkay Global cuts Nifty target</h3>
Emkay Global also noted that some structural reforms would be in the back burner now, however, it is unlikely for the economic direction to change for the next 2-3 years.&nbsp;
"This may result in some earnings downgrades in the near-to-mid-term. However, companies will ride out this short cycle given their strong balance sheets and cash flows. The major impact would be a derating, in our view," it said.
Emkay Global has also shifted its near-term preference to the large- and top-end of the midcap range from small and midcap space as it prefers stocks with strong earnings visibility, reasonable valuations, and low risk. In the perspective of 2-3 years, it retained its preference for Small and Mid caps, as it thinks the current cycle will continue to be investment over consumption and manufacturing over services.
Emkay's sectoral preference has also changed, in which industrials are underweight now due to rich valuations and weak sentiment. Real estate is downgraded as well.&nbsp;
"We upgrade FMCG, IT, and Healthcare to OW, largely on defensive positioning. FMCG is showing signs of a demand pickup and IT valuations give us some comfort. If the new government reacts to the election results with a demand stimulus, it would be an additional positive but not our base case," it said
The brokerage has also retained its overweight on durables, with a greater focus on OEMs over ancillaries. Its contrarian underweight on financials continues. It said is exiting all PSUs and companies with weak earnings structures.&nbsp;
Emkay has removed Zomato, Delhivery (valuations, weak earnings structure), Ambuja Cements (high valuations), ITC (budget risks), &nbsp;Motherson Sumi Wiring, and ONGC (exiting PSUs) from of its model portfolio.&nbsp;
Meanwhile it added, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki, Hindustan Unilever, Nestl&eacute; (mass consumption theme), Infosys, Shree Cement (defensive, relatively low multiples) while it increased weight to Reliance to replace ONGC's.&nbsp;
Emkay Global is expecting the new government to form in the next 2-3 days and is closely watching the ministry allocation.
"The accommodation of key allies would be close tracked &ndash; the number of ministers inducted as well as the ministries they are given. The identities of senior ministers (Finance, Home, Defense, and External Affairs) would be another key monitorable. The NDA may publish a broad policy document once the cabinet is sworn in which would give us some perspective of the new government's policy imperatives. We would then move on to the Union Budget, expected in early Jul-2024," it said

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened on a strong note on Friday. Supported by positive global cues and and a jump in shares of Bajaj Finance after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) lifted restrictions on two of its lending products, Nifty hit an all time high.
<h3>Nifty Ascends</h3>
Benchmark index Nifty 50 hit a new all-time high of 22,787 on Friday morning, while Sensex was just 37 points away from its record high. Though volatility remained on the higher side, all the other broader market indices were also trading in the positive territory.&nbsp;
Among sectoral indices, Nifty Financial Services rose due to the rise in shares of Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv. However, Nifty Metal was the top gainer as it was the only sectoral index that rose over 1%.
Moneycontrol quoted Sameet Chavan, Head Research, Technical and Derivative - Angel One and said that the path to Nifty's 23,000-mark is achievable after the index conquered 22,780-22,800 range. "The immediate support will shift higher towards the 22,550-22,500 mark, followed by 22,400," he added.
<h3>Bajaj Finance shares ascend</h3>
Bajaj Finance shares gained as much as 7% in early trade. This follows a stock exchange filing on Thursday where it announced that the RBI had lifted restrictions on two lending products. As a result the shares of Bajaj Finserv also gained.&nbsp;
"The removal of restrictions on Bajaj Finance's eCOM adds to the upbeat market sentiment. Investors are eagerly awaiting the US jobs report for April and keeping an eye on Q4 corporate earnings from India Inc. Technical analysis points to Nifty potentially surpassing the psychological 23,000 mark, with significant support and resistance levels outlined." said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd
"The recommended trades for Nifty and Bank Nifty are provided, along with optimistic sentiments regarding select stocks like COAL INDIA and TATA MOTORS. Also, IRCTC emerges as a standout pick due to its promising momentum prospects," he added

The G20 summit's success, coupled with robust buying in index giants Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank, contributed to the ongoing positive momentum in the stock market.
The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, reclaimed the 67,000 level, closing at 67,127.08, a gain of 528.17 points or 0.79 percent. The Nifty reached its all-time high of 20,008.15, a gain of 188.2 points or 0.94 percent, before closing just below the 20,000 mark at 19,996.35, up 176.40 points or 0.89 percent.
Dhiraj Relli, MD &amp; CEO of HDFC Securities Ltd., attributed Nifty's achievement to robust local investor inflows and India's recent successes in space and foreign diplomacy. These positive developments have bolstered investor sentiment amid global uncertainties.
Major gainers among Sensex firms included Axis Bank, Power Grid, Maruti, State Bank of India, Tata Motors, ITC, Nestle, and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra. Bajaj Finance and Larsen &amp; Toubro were among the laggards.
The positive market sentiment was influenced by the G20 summit's historic consensus declaration, robust loan growth data, strong profitability, and lower non-performing assets in PSU banks, according to Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. Additionally, expectations of easing inflation due to falling vegetable prices contributed to the market rally.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined to USD 90.35 a barrel. On Friday, the BSE benchmark had gained 333.35 points, while the broader Nifty advanced 92.90 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 224.22 crore on Friday.
In Asian markets, Seoul and Shanghai closed with gains, while Tokyo and Hong Kong ended lower. European markets were trading in the green, and the US markets closed positively on Friday.

The broader NSE Nifty went up 82.65 points or 0.46 per cent to finish at 18,147.65.
From the Sensex firms, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, Tata Steel, Maruti, Infosys, Power Grid, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Axis Bank, Titan, Reliance Industries, Wipro and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were the biggest gainers.
Sun Pharma, UltraTech Cement, Tata Motors, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, State Bank of India and Nestle were among the laggards.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Japan, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended in the green.
Equity markets in Europe were trading mostly lower. The US markets had ended marginally lower on Monday.
GST collection in April rose by 12 per cent annually to over Rs 1.87 lakh crore, touching an all-time monthly high, showed finance ministry data released on Monday.
Manufacturing activities in India accelerated further and touched a four-month high in April, boosted by robust new business growth, mild price pressures, better international sales, and improving supply-chain conditions, a monthly survey said on Monday.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were buyers on Friday as they bought equities worth Rs 3,304.32 crore, according to exchange data.
Markets are now awaiting the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday.
Equity markets were closed on Monday on account of Maharashtra Day.
The BSE benchmark had jumped 463.06 points or 0.76 per cent to settle at 61,112.44 on Friday. The Nifty had advanced 149.95 points or 0.84 per cent to finish at 18,065.
Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.38 per cent to USD 79.03 per barrel.

Benchmark Sensex declined by 360 points while the Nifty closed below the 17,000-level on Monday due to a sell-off in financials, IT and capital goods shares amid a global rout in equities on lingering worries over the banking crisis.
The 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 360.95 points or 0.62 per cent to close at 57,628.95 as 23 of its stocks ended in the red. The index tanked more than 900 points to touch a low of 57,084.91 before recovering some losses at the fag end.
The broader Nifty of the NSE plunged by 111.65 points or 0.65 per cent to close below the 17,000-level at 16,988.40. As many as 40 Nifty stocks declined while 10 advanced.
Analysts said investors fretted over the US banking crisis even as Federal Reserve and other central banks took efforts to ease a fast-growing banking crisis.
"The fear of contagion of the financial crisis has kept investors away from the equity markets as the global market faces numerous hurdles. Despite Swiss regulators' intervention to protect the global financial system, investor sentiment remained shaky," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
Among Sensex shares, Bajaj Finserv fell the most by 4.08 per cent. Bajaj Finance declined by 3.01 per cent, Tata Steel by 2.2 per cent, Wipro by 2.09 per cent, Tata Motors by 1.96 per cent, IndusInd Bank by 1.9 per cent, SBI by 1.75 per cent, Tech Mahindra by 1.66 per cent and HCL Tech by 1.2 per cent.
TCS, Infosys, Power Grid, Maruti, Reliance, HDFC twins, L&amp;T, M&amp;M, NTPC and Ultratech Cement were also among the losers.
Hindustan Unilever bucked the trend to emerge as the biggest Sensex gainer, rising by 2.45 per cent. ITC, Kotak Bank, Sun Pharma and Nestle also closed higher.

Besides, persistent foreign capital drain from the domestic market and the sliding rupee kept the pressure on equities, traders said.
Falling for the fifth straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed lower by 344.29 points or 0.59 per cent at 57,555.90. During the session, it touched a high of 58,473.63 and a low of 57,455.67.
The broader NSE Nifty declined 71.15 points or 0.42 per cent to end at 16,972.15, with 28 of its stocks ending with losses.
IndusInd Bank was the biggest loser in the Sensex pack, shedding nearly 2 per cent, followed by Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, HDFC twins, SBI, HUL, Tata Motors, Nestle India and Axis Bank.
On the other hand, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, Titan and L&amp;T were among the gainers, rising up to 3.03 per cent.

Among Sensex shares, HDFC Bank fell the most by 2.58 per cent, followed by SBI (2.12 per cent), HDFC (2.09 per cent), and IndusInd Bank (2.02 per cent).
Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, M&amp;M, L&amp;T, Reliance, Infosys and TCS were among the major losers.
In contrast, Tata Motors, Maruti, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Power Grid and Titan were among the gainers.
Heavy selling in financial, banking, IT and capital goods shares triggered by weak Asian markets and overnight losses in the US market dragged down the benchmark indices, analysts said.

Paring its early gains, the BSE Sensex declined by 326.23 points or 0.55 per cent to settle at a four-month low of 58,962.12. During the day, it dropped 492.38 points or 0.83 per cent to 58,795.97.
The NSE Nifty dipped 88.75 points or 0.51 per cent to end at more than four-month low of 17,303.95 as 33 of its stocks declined.

The BSE Sensex declined by 175.58 points or 0.30 per cent to close at a month's low of 59,288.35 with 17 of its shares posting losses. During the day, it tanked 526.29 points or 0.88 per cent to 58,937.64.
The NSE Nifty fell 73.10 points or 0.42 per cent to end at a four-month low of 17,392.70 as 33 of its stocks ended in the red.
Sensex and Nifty fell for a seventh straight session, matching the seven-session losing run in the last week of September last year. In the seven sessions, Sensex tanked 2,031 points or 3.4 per cent while Nifty shed 643 points or 4.1 per cent to close below the 17,400 level.
In seven days, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms eroded by Rs 10,36,307.34 crore to Rs 2,57,94,678.26 crore.
From the Sensex pack, Tata Steel, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Bharti Airtel, Wipro and Bajaj Finance were the biggest laggards.
Power Grid, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and State Bank of India were among the gainers.

Benchmark indices pared early gains and ended lower on Friday in line with weak trend in Asian markets and concerns that the US Federal Reserve might raise interest rates further to curb inflation.
Fresh foreign fund outflows and selling pressure in HDFC twins also dented investor sentiments.
The BSE Sensex declined 142 points or 0.24 per cent to settle at 59,463.93 despite a firm start. During the day, it fell 280.46 points or 0.47 per cent to 59,325.34.
The NSE Nifty dipped 45.45 points or 0.26 per cent to end at 17,465.80.
In the Sensex pack, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Maruti, Larsen &amp; Toubro, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra and Bharti Airtel were the major laggards.
Asian Paints, Bajaj Finserv, Power Grid, Reliance Industries, NTPC and UltraTech Cement were among the gainers.

Equity benchmark indices buckled under selling pressure for the fifth straight session on Thursday as a bearish trend in Asian markets and concerns over rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve unnerved investors.
Besides, fresh foreign fund outflows also hit investor sentiments, traders said.
In a highly volatile trade amid monthly derivatives expiry, the BSE Sensex declined 139.18 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 59,605.80. During the day, it hit a high of 59,960.04 and a low of 59,406.31.
The NSE Nifty slipped 43.05 points or 0.25 per cent to end at 17,511.25.
In the Sensex pack, Asian Paints, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Titan, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, HDFC Bank and HDFC were the major laggards.
On the other hand, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, ITC, State Bank of India, Tata Steel and Sun Pharma were among the gainers.

Falling for the fourth day in a row, the BSE Sensex tumbled 927.74 points or 1.53 per cent to settle at 59,744.98, the lowest closing level since February 1. During the day, it tanked 991.17 points or 1.63 per cent to 59,681.55.
The 50-issue NSE Nifty declined 272.40 points or 1.53 per cent to end at a four-month low of 17,554.30 with 47 of its constituents ending in the red.
From the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Industries, Wipro, HDFC Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank and Tata Steel were the major laggards.
ITC was the lone winner in the Sensex pack.

It was a bloodbath on Dalal street with the markets cracking under pressure of the Adani pack. The Adani group of companies went into a freefall today, on the back of the scathing Hindenburg report that accused Adani of corporate malpractice, stock manipulation and accounting fraud. A report, which Adani termed as &lsquo;unresearched&rsquo; and &lsquo;malicious&rsquo;. The Adani group said it was exploring legal options against Hindenburg research.
The group CFO said that the &lsquo;&rsquo;timing of the report&rsquo;s publication was a &lsquo;&rsquo;brazen, mala fide intention to undermine Adani Group&rsquo;s reputation with the principal objective of damaging the follow-on public offering from Adani Enterprises&rsquo;&rsquo;. &nbsp;
This Hindenburg report was released just ahead of the Adani Enterprises FPO, which is the largest ever FPO in India. The follow-on public offering opened today to a muted start, receiving bids for Rs 3.63 lakh shares or 1% of the issue size of 4.55 cr shares.&nbsp;
However, responding to Adani, Hindenburg research stands by its report, saying &ldquo;If Adani is serious, it should also file a suit in the US where we operate. We have a long list of documents we would demand in a legal discovery process&rsquo;&rsquo;.
Meanwhile, the capital markets regulator SEBI, will also study the Hindenburg report. A Reuters report says SEBI, in its ongoing preliminary investigation into the group&rsquo;s offshore fund holdings, will also study the report. Incidentally, SEBI has also been named in the report as being aware of such malpractices

Rallying for the fifth day in a row, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 211.16 points or 0.34 per cent to settle at 62,504.80, its fresh record closing high. During the day, it jumped 407.76 points or 0.65 per cent to its lifetime intra-day peak of 62,701.40.
The broader NSE Nifty gained 50 points or 0.27 per cent to end at 18,562.75, its record closing high.
Among the Sensex pack, Reliance Industries jumped the most by 3.48 per cent, followed by Nestle, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finserv, Wipro, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank.

Equity benchmark BSE Sensex closed at an all-time high of 62,272.68 on Thursday, tracking a firm trend in global markets after the US Fed minutes indicated a slower pace of rate increase that bolstered investors' sentiment.
Extending its rally to the third straight day, the 30-share BSE benchmark rallied 762.10 points or 1.24 per cent to settle at 62,272.68, its record closing peak. During the day, it jumped 901.75 points or 1.46 per cent to its lifetime high of 62,412.33.
The broader NSE Nifty gained 216.85 points or 1.19 per cent to end at 18,484.10. During the day, it hit its 52-week high of 18,529.70, higher by 262.45 points or 1.43 per cent.
"Two triggers assisted the Sensex rally to record highs. One, in the mother market US, the market construct turned favourable with rising equities, declining bond yields and falling dollar. Two, macro developments in India show steady rise in credit growth and capex indicating strong economic recovery.
"Along with this, sharp correction in crude is a big positive. This has facilitated this Sensex rally led by large-caps, mainly the HDFC twins, Infosys, TCS and RIL," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

Equity exchanges in Europe were trading in the green in the afternoon trade. Wall Street had ended higher on Wednesday.
"Led by broad-based buying, domestic indices witnessed solid gains as investors digested the latest Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes, which hinted that the rate hike cycle may be slowing down. The optimism was further boosted by falling crude prices and the declining dollar index. Crude oil prices dropped over talks of a possible price cap on Russian oil and a rise in US product stockpiles," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.46 per cent lower at USD 85.02 per barrel.
