The country's top wrestlers resumed their agitation against the wrestling federation's chief on Sunday, three months after they ended their sit-in protest following the formation of an oversight committee to probe into the serious allegations.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the country's ban on same-sex marriage is not discriminatory, insisting that constitutional freedom of marriage only envisions heterosexual unions, a comment that triggered criticism he is backtracking despite his recent apology and meeting with LGBTQ people.
Kishida's governing Liberal Democratic Party, known for its conservative family values and reluctance to promote gender equality and sexual diversity, is virtually the main opposition to legalisation of same-sex marriage and other measures of equality for LGBTQ people.
Asked by an opposition lawmaker at Tuesday's parliamentary budget committee if he thinks a same-sex marriage ban constitutes discrimination, Kishida said &ldquo;I don't think disallowing same-sex couples to marry is unjust discrimination by the state." His comment sparked criticism from opposition lawmakers and LGBTQ activists, who questioned whether Kishida was backpedalling to show consideration to ultra-conservatives in his party who oppose sexual diversity.
Kishida said after meeting with LGBTQ representatives in mid-February that he &ldquo;strongly felt the need for discussion" and would consider the voices of the people and in parliament, as well as rulings in several ongoing lawsuits and measures in local municipalities.
Kishida on Wednesday repeated his position that a same-sex marriage ban &ldquo;is not unconstitutional&rdquo; and denied that he is prejudiced. &ldquo;I believe I do not have a sense of discrimination (on the issue),&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;And I have never stated I'm against it.&rdquo; Former Kishida aide Masayoshi Arai's discriminatory remarks last month about LGBTQ people ignited nationwide outrage and prompted a renewed push for the Kishida government to enact an anti-discrimination law even after the official was sacked.
Arai told reporters in early February that he wouldn't want to live next to LGBTQ people and that citizens would flee Japan if same-sex marriages were allowed.
Toru Miyamoto, a Japanese Communist Party lawmaker, asked Kishida on Wednesday about his meeting with LGBTQ representatives and whether he really meant his apology.
Miyamoto also noted recent media surveys and local government initiatives introducing non-binding same-sex partnerships, and told Kishida that support for same-sex marriage now represents the majority of public opinion.
Since the controversy erupted, Kishida appointed a special aide for LGBTQ issues and instructed his party to prepare legislation to promote understanding for LGBTQ rights.
Activists are now urging the government to enact anti-discrimination legislation before Japan hosts a summit of the Group of Seven industrialised nations in May in Hiroshima. Japan is the only G-7 member that has not recognized same-sex marriage or enacted an anti-discrimination law for LGBTQ people.
But his own previous comments &mdash; including that allowing same-sex marriage would change society and family values and must be carefully considered &mdash; were also seen as an indication of his reluctance to promote equal rights for LGBTQ people despite his pledge to create an inclusive and diverse society.
Campaigns for equal rights for LGBTQ people have been stonewalled especially by conservatives in Kishida's governing Liberal Democratic Party. An attempt to enact an equality awareness promotion law ahead of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics was quashed by the party.
While surveys show growing public support for same-sex unions, government efforts to support sexual diversity have been slow in Japan and legal protections are still lacking for LGBTQ people. West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday backed party spokesperson Saket Gokhale, who has been arrested by the Gujarat Police over a tweet on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said that she condemned the BJP government&rsquo;s "vindictive attitude".
Banerjee, who is visiting Rajasthan, also claimed that Gokhale made no mistake.
"It's a very bad, and sad (incident). Saket (Gokhale) is a bright man. He is very popular on social media. He has made no mistake," Banerjee told reporters at Jaipur airport.
"I condemn this vindictive attitude. He (Saket) has been arrested because he tweeted against the Prime Minister. People also tweet against me... We are really feeling sorry about the situation," she said before heading for Pushkar.
The Gujarat Police have detained Gokhale over a tweet endorsing an alleged fake news report about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Morbi after a bridge collapse incident there on October 31, which had claimed 135 lives.
Gokhale recently tweeted a news clipping which apparently appeared to have been published in a leading Gujarati newspaper.

An unexpected surge of ethnic Malay support propelled Former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's right-leaning National Alliance to win 72 seats, with its ally Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party emerging as the biggest single party with 49 seats.
The stalemate was resolved after the long-ruling bloc led by the United Malays National Organisation agreed to support a unity government under Anwar.
Such a tie-up was once unthinkable in Malaysian politics, long dominated by rivalry between the two parties. Other influential groups in Borneo island have said they will follow the king's decision.
&ldquo;His Royal Highness reminds all parties that the winners do not win all and the losers do not lose everything,&rdquo; a palace statement read.
The monarch urged Anwar and his new government to be humble, and said all opposing parties should reconcile to ensure a stable government and end Malaysia's political turmoil, which has led to three prime ministers since 2018 polls.
The palace statement said the king was satisfied Anwar is the candidate who is likely to have majority support but didn't give details of the new government.
Police have tightened security nationwide as social media warned of racial troubles if Anwar's multiethnic bloc wins.
Anwar's rise to the top will ease fears over greater Islamisation. But he faces a tall task in bridging racial divides that deepened after Saturday's poll, as well as reviving an economy struggling with rising inflation and a currency that has fallen to its weakest point.
Malays form two-thirds of Malaysia's 33 million people, which include large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities.

Amid a divisive split in his party, he said any individual statement or written oaths made by the group's 30 lawmakers supporting any bloc was invalid because a decision will only be made by the coalition's highest-decision making body. Anyone going against it can be sacked, he warned.
Zahid, who faces dozens of graft charges, is facing a revolt within his party amid growing calls for him to resign and take responsibility for the election losses. Some lawmakers who won have openly voiced their support for Muhyiddin's bloc but others warned reviving such a partnership may lead to a repeat of the infighting that led to political turmoil Many rural Malays, who form two-thirds of Malaysia's 33 million people &mdash; which includes large minorities of ethnic Chinese and Indians &mdash; fear they may lose their rights with greater pluralism under Anwar's multiethnic alliance. This, together with corruption in UMNO, has benefited Muhyiddin's bloc.
Hishammuddin Hussein, an UMNO vice president, issued a statement on Facebook to reiterate his refusal to support Anwar's bloc. &ldquo;I am willing to be fired by the party but will never change this firm stance,&rdquo; he said.
Officials from Muhyiddin's camp claimed that 18 lawmakers from Zahid's bloc are on their side. After the king extended the deadline for political parties, the National Alliance said in a statement it had already handed to the palace written oaths from more than 112 lawmakers who support Muhyiddin as the next prime minister, giving it the majority.
Any deal will have to be approved by Sultan Abdullah. The king's role is largely ceremonial in Malaysia, but he appoints the person he believes has majority support in Parliament as prime minister.
Saturday's election outcome stunned many Malaysians who had hoped for stability and unity after political turmoil that has seen three prime ministers since 2018 polls.
The current scenario is a replay of what happened in 2020, when Muhyiddin abandoned Anwar's ruling alliance, causing its collapse, and joined hands with UMNO to form a new government. Sultan Abdullah at the time requested written oaths from all 222 lawmakers and later interviewed them separately before picking Muhyiddin as prime minister. But his government was beset by internal rivalries and Muhyiddin resigned after 17 months.
Muhyiddin's alliance entered Saturday's polls as an underdog but enjoyed an unexpected surge of support. Its hard-line ally is the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, the biggest winner with a haul of 49 seats &mdash; more than double what it won in 2018. Known as PAS, it touts Sharia, rules three states and is now the single largest party. Its rise has stoked fears of greater Islamization in the country.

The British Indian leader updated UK Parliament that he reviewed progress on the FTA during his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said that the UK government remains committed to working &ldquo;as quickly as possible&rdquo; towards a successful conclusion to the ongoing free trade agreement (FTA) talks with India, as the majority of the substantive negotiation conversations were completed at the end of last month.
At a House of Commons session on the G20 Summit in Indonesia on Thursday, the British Indian leader updated Parliament that he reviewed progress on the FTA during his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi since taking charge at 10 Downing Street.
He was questioned by Opposition Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer and his own Conservative Party MPs on the timeline for the completion of the agreement with India.
&ldquo;I discussed the free trade agreement with India, and both the Prime Minister of India and I committed our teams to working as quickly as possible to see if we can bring a successful conclusion to the negotiations,&rdquo; said Sunak.
&ldquo;Without negotiating all these things in public, I am pleased that the majority of the substantive negotiation conversations were concluded by the end of October. We will now work at pace with the Indian teams to try to resolve the issues and come to a mutually satisfactory conclusion,&rdquo; he said.
More broadly, he reiterated the UK government&rsquo;s stance since the Diwali deadline for the FTA was missed, that he would not &ldquo;sacrifice quality for speed&rdquo; because it is important to take the time to get trade deals right.
Sunak was questioned about his other discussions with Modi and whether he raised issues such as India&rsquo;s stance over the Russia-Ukraine conflict and also the UK being an exception within Europe to not be offered the e-visa facility &ndash; something he confirmed was discussed and will remain on the government&rsquo;s agenda.
On India&rsquo;s &ldquo;non-aligned&rdquo; position on the Ukraine conflict, he claimed &ldquo;enormous comfort&rdquo; from the fact that the G20 communique &ldquo;contained strong language of condemnation about Russia&rsquo;s aggression&rdquo;.
&ldquo;Our relationship and partnership with India are much broader than just a trading relationship. I was pleased to discuss increasing our security cooperation with India,&rdquo; said Sunak.
&ldquo;We also announced the mobility scheme to enable young people from India to come here and young Brits to go there, which is a sign of what is possible. Such exchanges are positive both for our countries and for the young people who benefit,&rdquo; he said, with reference to the new UK-India Young Professionals Scheme launched at the summit earlier this week involving 3,000 new reciprocal visa offers annually for under-30s &mdash; dubbed as "good for both Indian students and British students who want to go back and forth".
On the new scheme, Labour&rsquo;s Indian-origin MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi questioned the move against the backdrop of &ldquo;dog whistle&rdquo; anti-immigrant rhetoric from Home Secretary Suella Braverman&rsquo;s &ldquo;incendiary remarks against international students that so incensed people in India&rdquo;.
The Labour Leader also attacked Braverman for putting the FTA deal with India in doubt after indicating that she would not support it, with reference to her controversial remarks on Indians being the largest group of visa overstayers.
&ldquo;The Home Secretary is rightly focused &mdash; there is nothing &lsquo;dog whistle&rsquo; about it &mdash; on clamping down on illegal migration, which the British people rightly expect and demand, and it is something that she and this government will deliver,&rdquo; Sunak said in defence of his Cabinet minister.

The 'Brothers of Italy' party leader in an address on September 26 morning also claimed victory saying that it was a night of pride and redemption. Her party  is in alliance with Berlusconi’s Forza Italia and Matteo Salvini’s League party that have successfully gained large majority in exit polls outcomes.
The official results are still awaited.
But Meloni's election to the top post is historic in many ways, and is in fact, rubbed with disapprovals and anguish if one looks at the preceding events
The elections were marred with controversies and protests given the right-wing origin of the leader for the top most. Despite being Italy's first ever Prime Minister, Meloni does not yield women right activists' support as they are worried over italy's 'far right future.'
The simple reason is her party that is rooted in a post-war movement that rose out of dictator Benito Mussolini's fascists. She ventured into politics in 2006, and co-founded the Brothers of Italy in 2012
She had made her prioroities clear in election speeches that included a no to the LGBT lobby, yes to sexual idenity, no to gender ideology and yes to the natural family.
Meloni has also been vocal about her disapproval of mass migration, as opposed to the Left, who have actively vouched for immigration policies. In fact, Meloni's party agenda is deep rooted in Euroskepticism and anti-immigration policies. 
The prelimnary results of Meloni-led Brothers of Italy show them wining at least 44% votes.
"With 63% of votes counted, the ultra-conservative Brothers of Italy party had won at least 26%, with coalition partners the League, led by Matteo Salvini, taking around 9% and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia scoring over 8%. Final results are expected later Monday, but it’s expected to take weeks for a new government to be formed," CNN reported

Th centre-left alliance on the other hand failed to challenge the right dominance in terms of vote. It was a way behind with 26% of the vote till September 25 evening, therefore, paving the way for right majority in the Parliament.
As polls in the run up to Sunday's vote showed her as the likely winner, Meloni, has moderated her far-right message in an apparent attempt to reassure the European Union and other international partners.
The formation of a ruling coalition with the help of right-wing allies of her Brothers of Italy party could take weeks.
If Meloni, 45, succeeds, she would be the first woman to hold the country's premiership. A mandate to try to form a government must be given by Italy's president.

In a rare break from royal tradition, Queen Elizabeth II will appoint Britain's new Prime minister in Scotland this year instead of London. Releasing a statement, Buckingham Palace revealed that the Queen is currently based in Scotland and does not plan to travel down to London.
The 96-year-old monarch will receive the newly elected Conservative Party leader at her Balmoral Castle residence on Sept 6 &ndash; a day after the Tory leadership election result is announced.
Over the years, the Queen has received newly elected Prime Ministers in England and it was expected that she would travel back to Buckingham Palace in London or to her Windsor Castle residence in Berkshire.
However, given her age, it was speculated that this time she may decide to stay on at Aberdeenshire in Scotland, where she is spending her annual summer break.

After he quit the alliance with the BJP in Bihar, chief minister Nitish Kumar Friday has said that he has no aspirations of becoming the Opposition’s prime ministerial face.
“I say this with folded hands, I have no such thoughts…My work is to work for everyone,” he told news agency ANI. “I will make an effort to see that all the Opposition parties work together. If they do, it will be good.”
Earlier this week, the Bihar chief minister ended his party’s alliance with the BJP and was sworn in once again as CM, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as his deputy. Asked whether he will be acting on Yadav’s promise of creating 10 lakh jobs in the state, Nitish said: “What he has said is right. All efforts will be made for it.”

Chief Justice of India N V Ramana administered her the oath as the 15th President of India.
Murmu has become India's first tribal President.

 Chandra Bose, grandnephew of the freedom fighter and a BJP leader, said that the issue has already been addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  The latest instance of shining a limelight on Netaji comes after a tussle between the Bengal and Union governments. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had objected to exclusion of the state tableau which featured Bose from the Republic Day parade. The Centre had responded by saying that all tableaux can't be included in the parade and due procedure was followed to select those that made it to the final list. Subsequently, on January 23, which is Bose's birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a hologram of a statue of the freedom fighter at India Gate in Delhi. The school syllabus committee in the state has now reportedly been tasked with scrutinising how Bose was leading India's government-in-exile during British rule. This would then be included in the general curriculum.&nbsp;TMC leader Kunal Ghosh thanked education minister Bratya Basu for the move.
 Chandra Bose, grandnephew of the freedom fighter and a BJP leader, said that the issue has already been addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.&nbsp;Bose reportedly said that on an earlier occasion, PM Modi had said that Netaji was the first Prime Minister of the Azad Hind government. He reportedly said that Jawaharlal Nehru should be considered first Prime Minister of divided, independent India.
 The latest instance of shining a limelight on Netaji comes after a tussle between the Bengal and Union governments.&nbsp;Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had objected to exclusion of the state tableau which featured Bose from the Republic Day parade.&nbsp;The Centre had responded by saying that all tableaux can't be included in the parade and due procedure was followed to select those that made it to the final list.
 Subsequently, on January 23, which is Bose's birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a hologram of a statue of the freedom fighter at India Gate in Delhi.&nbsp;The hologram would soon be replaced by a granite statue.
