Indian security forces launched a cordon and search operation to locate a terrorist in J&amp;K's Pulwama. The armed terrorist reportedly started firing indiscriminately and was eventually killed in an encounter.

A Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
Acting on specific intel regarding the presence of a terrorist in Arihal village of the south Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area on Thursday, a police spokesman said.
During the search operation, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately at the security forces, which retaliated, triggering an encounter, he said.
The terrorist, identified as Kifayat Ayoub Alie, a resident of Pinjoora Shopian and associated with the proscribed terror outfit LeT, was neutralised. His body was retrieved from the encounter site, the spokesman said.
Police records indicate his involvement in several terror-related crimes, the spokesman added.
Incriminating material and arms and ammunition, including a pistol, two magazines, five rounds, and two grenades, were seized from the encounter site, police said.&nbsp;

India Today reported that the bodies of the terrorists have not been recovered. The security forces had launched an operation after receiving input about the movement of terrorists in Parigam village of Pulwama.&nbsp;
&nbsp;"Encounter has started in Larrow-Parigam area of #Pulwama. Police &amp; Security Forces are on the job. Details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted on August 20.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police averted a major tragic incident as it apprehended a terror associate in Pulwama and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing approximately 5 to 6 kg, the police said on Sunday.
The arrested terror associate was identified as Ishfaq Ahmed Wani, a resident of Arigam, Pulwama, the police said. The police have registered a case into the matter.
"Pulwama Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a #terror associate Ishfaq Ahmed Wani R/O Arigam #Pulwama and recovering an #IED (approx 5-6Kgs) on his disclosure. Case registered," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted on Sunday afternoon.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.

The widows of the three CRPF jawans from Rajasthan, who were killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, &nbsp;were detained and taken to a local police station from a protest site outside Congress MLA Sachin Pilot's residence on Friday, India Today reported.&nbsp;
The women have been camping outside Sachin Pilot's residence, protesting since February 28 and launched an indefinite hunger strike.&nbsp;
Reports of some cops misbehaving with the women also surfaced.&nbsp;
The widows are demanding changes in rules so that their relatives and not just children can get government jobs on compassionate grounds.
Reacting to the demand, Gehlot asked on Twitter if it would be "appropriate" to give jobs to other relatives of the martyred jawans instead of their children.

The incident took place at around 11 am when the victim, Sanjay Sharma, was on his way to the local market. The deceased was a 40-year-old member of the minority Kashmiri Pandit community, and resident of the Achan area in the south Kashmir district.
He was rushed to hospital, but could not be saved. Police said that the area was subsequently cordoned off.

Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a spate of terror attacks, even during Ramzan, a month-long Islamic festival.&nbsp;At least three terror strikes have taken place in two days, April 3 and 4.
In a disturbing trend which seems to be on the rise in the Valley, two non-local civilians were shot by terrorists in Pulwama.&nbsp;Patleshwar Kumar and Jako Chowdhary, both of whom hail from Bihar, were injured in the attack at Lajoora on April 4.
 Just a day earlier, two workers from Punjab had been shot and injured in the same district.&nbsp;Dheeraj Dutt and Surinder Singh, from Pathankot, had suffered bullet wounds in the chest and leg on April 3.
 Meanwhile, terrorists targeted personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force, or CRPF, in capital city Srinagar.&nbsp;While one CRPF soldier was reportedly killed, another was injured in the attack which occurred in the Maisuma area.
 The attacks occurred in the backdrop of a claim by the Union government that the security situation is improving in the Union Territory.&nbsp;The government has said that&nbsp;terror incidents reduced from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021, and the number of security personnel killed in the line of duty reduced from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.

The attack was condemned by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and leaders cutting across party lines, including Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone.
According to the police spokesperson, Pandita was a "protected person" and had been provided with two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) and a secured accommodation in Srinagar.
At the time of the incident, Pandita was without any PSO as he defied the standard operating procedure (SoP) and went to his native village in the south Kashmir district without his security.
