Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a spate of terror attacks, even during Ramzan, a month-long Islamic festival. At least three terror strikes have taken place in two days, April 3 and 4.

In a disturbing trend which seems to be on the rise in the Valley, two non-local civilians were shot by terrorists in Pulwama. Patleshwar Kumar and Jako Chowdhary, both of whom hail from Bihar, were injured in the attack at Lajoora on April 4.

Just a day earlier, two workers from Punjab had been shot and injured in the same district. Dheeraj Dutt and Surinder Singh, from Pathankot, had suffered bullet wounds in the chest and leg on April 3.

Meanwhile, terrorists targeted personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force, or CRPF, in capital city Srinagar. While one CRPF soldier was reportedly killed, another was injured in the attack which occurred in the Maisuma area.

The attacks occurred in the backdrop of a claim by the Union government that the security situation is improving in the Union Territory. The government has said that terror incidents reduced from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021, and the number of security personnel killed in the line of duty reduced from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.
