Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant revealed that he was reluctant to visit the airport after his life-threatening injury as he was apprehensive about facing people while wheelchair-bound.
The 26-year-old had suffered multiple injuries following a near-fatal car crash on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in December, 2022.
He miraculously cheated death but the injuries required a major knee surgery and an extensive rehabilitation about which Pant has already opened up.
"The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up after it, I wasn't even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me," Pant said on "Dhawan Karenge", a talk show hosted by India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.
"I couldn't go to the airport because I was nervous about facing people in a wheelchair. I couldn't even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I suffered unbearable pain," Pant recalled.
However, the flamboyant batter returned to action after 14 months in the recently concluded IPL, giving glimpses of his devastating best.&nbsp;

The 26-year-old has received a one-match suspension and a fine of INR 30 lakh due to his team's slow over-rate during their May 7th match against the Rajasthan Royals. The disciplinary action was taken because the Capitals were found to be 10 minutes behind schedule at the commencement of the final over of that game. This incident marked the team's third slow over-rate offence this season, triggering more severe penalties.
As a result of these repeated infractions, the match referee's decision to impose a suspension and fine on Pant was significant. Additionally, the rest of the Delhi Capitals squad, including the impact substitute, has been penalized with a fine of INR 12 lakh each, or 50% of their match fee, whichever amount is smaller.
Following the match referee's ruling, the Delhi Capitals management submitted an appeal, which was subsequently referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for further review. After a virtual hearing, the Ombudsman upheld the original decision, affirming that the match referee's conclusions were final and binding.

So, a recipe was derived to make it with that much oil.'&nbsp; And as the team at the NCA came up with creative alternatives to nurse Pant back to his zenith, return to the sport demanded more sacrifices.&nbsp; A strict sleep schedule meant all gadgets would be shut off and it would be lights-out by 11 PM, enabling the prolific batter to get his 8-9 hours of rest before training again next day.&nbsp; Closer to his comeback, a fit-again Rishabh Pant eventually took up batting two and a half hours everyday. He then resumed keeping as IPL drew closer, a 45-minute session per day.&nbsp; In 2024 season, the Delhi skipper has led from the front, scoring 398 runs, including a personal best of 88* at a strike-rate of 158.57.&nbsp;

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant conceded his side was literally doing catchup all through the match after Sunrisers Hyderabad made a huge 'power play' statement smashing 125 runs to create an IPL record at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
SRH's Travis Head (89, 32 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (46, 12 balls) took power play to a different level, erasing the previous record of 105/0 by KKR against RCB in 2017.
SRH went on to score 266/7 and then dismissed the home side for 199 in 19.1 overs for a 67-run win and go second on the table.
"I think power play was the difference. We were just catching up throughout the match. That was the massive difference. Hopefully, we will come back with more thought process and clear mindset," said Pant, whose 'homecoming' was spoilt by Head and Sharma's 131-run partnership.
The DC skipper also said he probably misjudged the dew factor at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and decided to bowl first after winning the toss.
"The only thought process behind that (deciding to bowl first) was we thought there would be some dew but it didn't come. I thought if we could restrict them to 220-230, we would be in with a chance." SRH bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar got just one wicket but his restrictive spell in the high-scoring match -- 33 runs in 4 overs -- played a vital role in the easy win.
"Feeling good. Not among the wickets but the way I want to execute it is happening. Just a matter of time," said the pace-bowling stalwart.
"When defending those many runs, you either go for plenty or you get wickets. We accepted that we'll go for plenty of runs when defending those many runs, but the plan was to keep executing," he added.
Bhuvneshwar praised his fellow pacer T Natarajan's bowling, who was twice on a hat-trick in a single over and ended up with superb figures of 4/19 in four overs "Amazing. We know how good he is at yorkers. He keeps working hard, silent guy, goes unnoticed a lot. We know how important he is for Sunrisers," said Bhuvneshwar, adding that he is happy that SRH batting is finally clicking after several years.
"For so many years, this is the first time our batting is clicking so much. As a bowling unit, happy to take the back seat. They (batters) are ruining us... when we defend 180 or so, it'll feel like less," he said.
Bhuvneshwar added both Head and Abhishek bat in the same manner at nets.
"Yes, same, especially Head and Abhishek, playing the same way. Batters sometimes play opposite (manner) in the nets, but they play the same way." The pacer indicated that bowlers don't get their due despite all the hard work but, in the end, they win championships for teams.
"Bowling is something... somebody says batting wins your sponsorship, but bowling wins you championship. The way we are bowling right now looks bad on the scorecard but it is pretty good for us," he said.
Player of the Match, Head said he was in good space following the match-winning knock.
"On a bit of a roll there. Enjoyable, boys are on a roll. When you're in good form, just trying to keep it simple. Reacted to the ball." He praised opening partner Abhishek for going all out against spinners.
"First time we saw spin in the powerplay last game, and seeing how aggressive he is against spin, we try to let him do his thing against spin. He did it today too," said Head.

Coming back after a painstakingly long rehab following a horrific car crash in December, 2022, Pant feels grateful to be back on the 22-yard strip.
"Jittery, nervous, excited...all of it, but at the same time, just happy, being able to come back to professional cricket. I'm just looking forward to playing my first game tomorrow," Pant said ahead of his team's first match of the season.
The ace keeper-batter knows that it will take time to get back to his old self and he wants to take one day at a time with extended batting sessions at the DC nets as that will give him a better chance to execute his wide range of strokes.
"Every time I take the field, it's a different feeling altogether. I think, as a batter, as long as I can bat. It is better because the more I bat, I will be in a better position to execute shots, muscle memory is intact even though I haven't played for nearly a year and half," the swashbuckling batter said.
"But I have been playing since childhood, so it doesn't go away that easily. So, the more I practice, the better chance I will give myself as a cricketer," he added.
Having endured a painful break, Pant doesn't want to look too far ahead.
"I just want to be there in the moment. I don't think much ahead. I take one day at a time, and give my 100%. Every time I take field, I love this game more and more," he added while talking about Delhi Capitals' pre-season camp in Visakhapatnam.
Just like his batting, Pant wants to keep his team's approach as simple as possible.
"Most of the conversations are pretty simple. We just want to go out there, have fun, not complicate things and give our 100% in all the games," he said.

Head coach Ricky Ponting couldn't be happier that his skipper is back where he belongs.
"We are about to start an IPL, it's really an exciting time of the year. It becomes more exciting when your captain is back in your team. Last year, we missed him. He is our leader. He is the heartbeat of this franchise and having him back is going to make this team a lot stronger," Ponting said when asked about Pant's return.
Pant termed Pant's comeback as an "amazing story that cricket loving people of India should be proud of." "When I met him during the IPL last year, he was on his crutches. Then we met at a camp in Kolkata, where he had started walking and was about to start jogging. Then I met him at the start of the camp. Look where he is now.
"Lot of people felt he might not come back but in his heart and mind, he never had those doubts at all. Matter of time for him to come back," the coach said.
Ponting feels that if Pant is a bit nervous going into his first game, it is a good sign.
"He will be a little bit nervous tomorrow, playing his first game in a while but nerves are always good because it means something to you. The day you are not nervous is the day you shouldn't be playing cricket anymore," Ponting was blunt.
The Australian didn't rule out a special effort from the left-hander on his return.
"We had a week's training in Vizag before coming here and trust me Rishabh is back and ready to play. He is batting and moving behind the stumps beautifully. Sometimes he bats too much and I have to drag him out of nets," the coach said in jest.
"I've seen where his game is at, and don't be surprised if something special happens tomorrow. His attitude and smile and what he wants to do for the team is infectious. Everyone wants to be like Rishabh," the Australian said.
The Capitals did their pre-tournament camp in Visakhapatnam as Feroz Shah Kotla was being used for WPL matches and Ponting wanted a good start.
"Make no mistake, we have got a great team this year. Our preparations have been absolutely perfect. We are just looking to topping it off today, and make sure we put in a performance that I know would be good enough to win the game tomorrow," Ponting said.
