A student of Class 4 was allegedly attacked by three of his classmates 108 times with a geometry compass during a fight at a private school in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Monday.
Taking cognisance of the incident, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has asked for the investigation report from the police, the official said.
Talking to PTI, CWC chairperson Pallavi Porwal said the student was allegedly attacked 108 times with a geometry compass by his classmates during a fight at a private school under the limits of Aerodrome police station on November 24.
&ldquo;The case is shocking. We have sought an investigation report from the police to find out the reason for the violent behaviour of children of such a young age,&rdquo; she said.
The CWC will counsel children and their families in connection with the incident and find out whether the children play video games that contain violent scenes, Porwal said.
The father of the victim alleged that the boy had sustained scars in the attack that occurred at the school around 2 pm on November 24.
&ldquo;My son narrated the ordeal when he returned home. I still do not know why he was treated so violently by his classmates. The school management is not providing me the CCTV footage of the classroom,&rdquo; he said.
A complaint has been lodged about the incident at the Aerodrome police station, he said.

The Delhi government has advanced the December winter break of all schools due to the high level of pollution in the city.

In view of air pollution in the national capital, the December winter break of all schools has been rescheduled and it will be now from November 9 to November 18, a circular of the Delhi Directorate of Education stated on Wednesday.
Earlier, due to bad air quality, holidays were announced from November 3 to November 10. &nbsp;"In the wake of implementation of GRAP-IV measures due to Severe Air Quality prevailing in Delhi and seeing that no respite from such adverse weather conditions in the near future is predicted by the IMO, the Winter Break for the session 2023-24 is ordered to be preponed so that schools can be totally closed and both children and teachers can stay at home," the circular stated "Accordingly, all schools shall observe Winter Break wef. 09th November 2023 (tomorrow) to 18th November 2023 (Saturday)," it stated.
The air quality in Delhi and its suburbs dropped to the severe category again on Wednesday morning, with smoke from post-harvest paddy straw burning in neighbouring states accounting for one-third of the air pollution in the national capital.
The city's air quality index stood at 421, worsening from 395 at 4 pm on Tuesday.
Despite a marginal dip, the concentration of PM2.5, fine particulate matter capable of penetrating deep into the respiratory system and triggering health problems, exceeded the government-prescribed safe limit of 60 micrograms per cubic metre by seven to eight times in the capital.
It was 30 to 40 times the healthy limit of 15 micrograms per cubic metre set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Several cities across the Indo-Gangetic plains reported hazardous air quality. Neighbouring Ghaziabad (382), Gurugram (370), Noida (348), Greater Noida (474), and Faridabad (396) also reported hazardous air quality.
According to data from the Decision Support System, a numerical model-based framework capable of identifying sources of particulate matter pollution in Delhi, stubble burning in neighbouring states, especially Punjab and Haryana, accounted for 37 percent of the air pollution in Delhi on Tuesday. It is likely to be 33 percent on Wednesday.

The students of Gaurdah Narayanpur Akshaya Vidyamandir said their teachers were suddenly transferred and now they are left will only 3 teachers who can take classes at the higher secondary level. 
The students also said that there would not have been a problem if the administration had chosen to transfer a teacher each from other schools in the district as well but transferring 5 teachers from their school will hamper their studies. 
The protest comes on a day when Bengal's education minister Bratya Basu announced that  government will take stock of state-run schools that have closed down and arrive at a mechanism to revive them. 
Certain guidelines will be framed based on the teacher-student ratio of those schools before their closure and the population density of the areas where they are located, the minister said.

The students got panicked hearing the sound of the explosion and left the premises helter-skelter, while teachers went upstairs to find bomb splinters close to the roof, according to a managing committee member of the state-aided institute at Titagarh in the industrial belt of the district.
A top official of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate told reporters after visiting the spot that the blast was caused by a single crude bomb.
He said that it would be investigated whether the bomb was hurled from a nearby building or it had been kept there and suddenly went off.
Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh told reporters at the spot that whoever was responsible for the blast would have to be arrested and punished.
"Had any child been around the spot, I shudder to think what could have happened. I have urged the commissioner of police and other top officials of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate to find out the culprits," said Singh who returned to the TMC from the BJP last May.
BJP's Hooghly MP Locket Chatterjee demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
"Even school children are not safe in the rule of Mamata Banerjee. Bombs are discovered in houses and party offices across West Bengal. Today's incident is a pointer to the grim law and order situation. We don't have faith in the state police or CID. We want CBI probe to unravel the truth," she said.
When asked to comment on Chatterjee’s claims, “I don’t want to join the issue with her. Let the police investigate the case first.”

Tamil Nadu rolls out Delhi model school plan, Kejriwal launches scheme

As many as 26 Schools of Excellence and 15 Model Schools are covered under the scheme, apparently in the initial phase.

The Tamil Nadu government inaugurated on Monday the Schools of Excellence and Model Schools Scheme, which is broadly based on schools in Delhi with upgraded infrastructure.
In an event held at the state-run Bharathi Women's College, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the scheme in Chennai in the presence of his Tamil Nadu counterpart M K Stalin.
As many as 26 Schools of Excellence and 15 Model Schools are covered under the scheme, apparently in the initial phase.
'Thagaisal Palligal' and 'Mathiri Palligal' are the official Tamil names for the SoE and Model Schools.
Stalin also launched the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammayar memorial 'Puthumai Penn' (Modern Woman) Scheme, under which a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 would be provided to girl students, who studied in government schools from classes 6-12, pursuing higher education.
As regards Kejriwal and the AAP, TN's plan provides one more opportunity to project his and his party-led government's 'successful' education/economic model being emulated elsewhere in the country. It would help the AAP to strengthen its narrative that it is no more a 'regional' party.
The upgraded infrastructure in state-run schools plan perfectly suits the DMK regime's "Dravidian model," which encompasses women empowerment and social justice.
The event may help AAP to score brownie points in future when it decides to seriously try its hand at electoral politics in Tamil Nadu. The AAP does not have a presence now in the state.
In April, along with Kejriwal, Stalin had visited government schools in Delhi and had praised the infrastructure in such institutions. He had then said his government would set up similar educational facilities in Tamil Nadu and invited Kejriwal for inauguration following completion of work.
In the Budget 2022-23, the state government had said the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme is being transformed as the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme.
The enrollment ratio of girl students from government schools in higher education is very low and the scheme's revamp was in recognition of that aspect.
Under the scheme, all girl students who studied from classes 6 to 12 in government schools would be paid Rs 1,000 per month directly into their bank account till the uninterrupted completion of their undergraduate degree, diploma and ITI courses.
The students would be eligible for this assistance in addition to other scholarships. Through this programme, approximately 6,00,000 girl students could potentially benefit each year. For this new scheme, an amount of Rs 698 crore was allotted in the budget.&nbsp;

At least 34 students of a private school in Bhubaneswar's Ghatikia were allegedly confined in a room Monday for around 5 hours for not depositing tuition fees on time. 
Post the alleged harrasment meted out to their kids, the anguished parents staged a sit-in at the school’s gate at Ghatikia demanding strict action against the school including arrest of those guilty.
They claimed that they had already paid tuition fees online, but it was not showing in the record due to a technical issue.
Acting on the parents' complaint, a case has been lodged at the Bharatpur police station against officials of the school under Section 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, beside the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The school on the other hand has refused to comment on the issue.
The parents claimed that the teachers rejected the kids' request to make phone calls to their parents, informing them that they were confined as their tuition fees were not deposited on time.
Speaking to media, one of the parents claimed that the kids were not given permission to eat, drink or go to the toilet and even the fans were switched off.
Another parent said they would approach the human and child rights commissions, and consult the lawyers for the next move

Amid a political controversy over weekly holidays in some Jharkhand schools, a BJP Member of Parliament claimed that the state was moving towards "Islamisation".
Nishikant Dubey said he was quoting from a state government reply in the Jharkhand Assembly. "Our MLA Anant Ojha asked a question in the state Assembly. I tweeted the reply given by the state government. They admitted that over 500 government schools have Urdu in the name. Over 500 schools have Urdu prayers. Over 500 schools where hands are not folded for prayers. They have weekly holidays on Fridays instead of Sundays. The state is moving towards Islamisation," he said.
Dubey said that he would raise the issue in the Parliament if it is allowed to function. He also called for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into a "conspiracy to break the nation".
The BJP MP added, "Government of India should impose President's Rule in Jharkhand. If the entire state is moving towards Islamisation, Bangladesh refugees are being given shelter, ISI activities are increasing. What other options are there? Uwents was produced before the court on Tuesday and has since been placed in custody under a murder charge.

The Maharashtra cabinet on Thursday decided to reopen schools for students of Classes 1 to 4 in rural areas and Classes 1 to 7 in urban areas from December 1.
School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad in a statement said that the decision has been taken after discussing the issue with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the cabinet and the pediatric task force. 
She added that in the next six days, the emphasis will be on acclimatizing schools, parents and children towards a safe transition to physical classes, as classrooms have been shut for nearly two years. 
Schools reopened for Classes 5 to 12 in rural areas on October 4, while those in urban areas resumed for Classes 8 to 12.
