The Shiv Sena UBT chief said the BJP was appropriating the legacy of Bal Thackeray because they can't garner votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday accused the BJP of trying to "steal" a "Thackeray" to win elections, a remark coming in the wake of a meeting between MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing a gathering in Nanded district, Uddhav Thackeray also said he was not bothered if the BJP took away his estranged cousin. Uddhav Thackeray's swipe at BJP comes after Raj Thackeray met Shah in Delhi amid a buzz that the BJP is looking to ally with him for the Lok Sabha polls to boost its alliance in Maharashtra.
"BJP knows very well that they don't get votes in the name of PM Narendra Modi in Maharashtra. People vote here in the name of (Bal) Thackeray. This realisation prompted the BJP to try to steal leaders from outside (BJP fold)," he said.
Alleging that BJP seed is "bogus", he accused the party of trying to appropriate the legacy of Bal Thackeray.
"First, they stole the photo of Bal Thackeray, but it doesn't matter. Today, they are trying to steal another Thackeray....take it, I and my people are enough," he said while concluding his two-day tour of Nanded and Hingoli districts in the Marathwada region.
Uddhav Thackeray, whose party is a constituent of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi and INDIA bloc, claimed even Christians and Muslims have no issue with his style of Hindutva.
"The image of Shiv Sena (undivided) was getting sullied when we were with the BJP. But since we severed ties with them, even members of Christian and Muslim communities are saying that they have no issues with our Hindutva ideology," he added.
Raj Thackeray had parted ways with the Shiv Sena, when it was undivided, due to his differences with Uddhav and founded MNS in 2006. However, his MNS could not make much impact even though he is seen as a powerful orator and enjoys a certain following.
His controversial comments against north Indians in the past had drawn sharp criticism from leaders of various political parties, including the BJP.&nbsp;

"Whatever political storms come, I will face... I will fight coronavirus too," Thackeray said in a televised public address.
A day after COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra crossed the 10-lakh mark, Thackeray said his government has done effective work to tackle the pandemic.
Speaking in the backdrop of political criticism over demolition of actress Kangana Ranaut's bungalow in Mumbai and the way his government handled the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Thackeray assured people that he would fight the political crisis too.
"I will have to remove the mask of Chief Minister to respond topolitics. I don't speak doesn't mean I don't have answers," Thackeray said.
Speaking on the state government's "Mission Begin Again" campaign during the pandemic, Thackeray said his administration effectively tackled the COVID-19 situation, cyclones and floods andwill also deal withthe political stormwith people's support.
Thackeray said the pandemic is showing no sign of a respite and the virus is spreading in rural Maharashtra as well. "But the number of patients recovering is also more.
Facts and figures show that if detected early, all patients recover fast," he said.
Asking people not to take the pandemic lightly, he said wearing masks, observing physical distancing, avoiding crowding and face-to-face contact with people is the only option as of now.
"We have slowly started to open up under Mission Begin Again. Some people think they can indulge in politics as part of Mission Begin Again. There is a conspiracy to defame and malign Maharashtra," he said.
He said the state government also reached out to the affected people during Nisarga cyclone and the floods in east Vidarbha and provided relief.
"Over 29 lakh farmers have benefited through the farm loan waiver scheme and Rs 700 crore have been disbursed towards relief and rehabilitation of those affected by the Nisarga cyclone," he said, adding Rs 18 crore have been given as immediate relief for floods in Vidarbha.
Thackeray said his government was doing its best to deal with all challenges.
"We should share our responsibilities to make the "my family, my responsibility" campaign (against coronavirus) which begins on September 15 a success. This war can be won only with people's wholehearted support," he said.
It is not feasible for the government to undertake checkup of each and every one of the 12 crore populace of the state, he said.
The Supreme Court's interim stay on implementation of the Maratha quota was unexpected, Thackeray said.
The Maratha quota bill was unanimously passed by the state legislature and the legal team hired by the previous BJP-led state government was arguing in the apexcourt, he said.
Thackeray appealed to Maratha organisations to refrain from holding protests and demonstrations during the pandemic.
"The government is firmly with the cause of justice to Maratha community and is working on how to proceed ahead. I have spoken to Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis who is in Bihar now and he has assured the BJP's complete support," he said.
A decision on extension of the lockdown would depend on how the people follow the pandemic protocols, he said.
"While using public transport, don't speak, avoid face-to-face contact," he said.
On criticism that he doesn't venture out, Thackeray said , "I have been using technology to reach out to all parts of the state to review the pandemic situation and issue directives."&nbsp;

A video of the incident shows six goons barge inside a residential property, drag veteran&nbsp;Madan Sharma out by the collar and slap him in the face multiple times. Six people have been arrested in the case. They were however later released on bail.
The victim's&nbsp;daughter alleged that after the incident, police came to their house to take Sharma&nbsp;with them. Madan Sharma, speaking to ANI,&nbsp;said every individual has the freedom to express and&nbsp;Whatsapp is a medium to share information. ((Byte))

The victim has filed an FIR in the matter at the Samta Nagar Police Station in Kandivali.&nbsp; Six people have been arrested in the case. They were however later released on bail.
The victim's&nbsp;daughter alleged that after the incident, police came to their house to take Sharma&nbsp;with them. Madan Sharma, speaking to ANI,&nbsp;said every individual has the freedom to express and&nbsp;Whatsapp is a medium to share information. He demanded&nbsp;that Govt should take measures to identify the source of a message.
BJP MLA&nbsp;Atul&nbsp;Bhatkalkar&nbsp;accused the chief minister of running a dictatorship in the state. Also reacting to the incident, former CM&nbsp;Devendra Fadnavis&nbsp;asked CM Thackeray to stop the 'gundaraj'.

'Dawood's man' calls up Maha CM's house twice, security scaled up

PTI,&nbsp;Mumbai:&nbsp;An unidentified man allegedly called up Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's personal residence 'Matoshree' in Bandra here, saying that he was calling from Dubai on behalf of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, a police official said on Sunday.
The caller rang up twice around 10.30 pm on Saturday, following which the police beefed up security at Thackeray's bungalow located in Kalanagar Colony, the official said.
"Someone called up on 'Matoshree' phone number two times on Saturday night and said Dawood Ibrahim wanted to talk to CM Uddhav Thackeray. However, the telephone operator did not transfer the call to the CM," the official said.
"The caller did not reveal his identity, but only said that he was calling from Dubai on behalf of Dawood Ibrahim.
Both the calls were received around 10.30 pm," he added.
The local police were later informed about the calls, following which extra security force was deployed outside the bungalow, the official said.
According to him, no case was registered in this connection.
Talking to PTI, a top police official said, "We are trying to verify whether the calls received were from Dubai or some other place. Investigation is on." Meanwhile, Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab dismissed reports that the caller gave a threat to blow up the chief minister's residence.
"There was no threat to blow up 'Matoshree'," he said.
"Police have been informed about the calls and a probe is on," the Shiv Sena leader said.&nbsp;
