The Vivo V50e is the latest in that tradition with a starting price of Rs 28,999. It&rsquo;s shiny (literally), slim, and packed with enough tricks to keep most users happy &mdash; even if it plays it a little safe in some departments.

The Vivo V50e comes in two shades &mdash; Sapphire Blue, if you like your phones loud, and Pearl White, if you like them looking like they moisturise twice a day. &nbsp;I got the Pearl White, and it's giving shimmer without going full glitter bomb &mdash; subtle, sleek, and just a little bit extra.
And yes, that camera module is back. You know the one &mdash; the bottle-opener-style design that Vivo&rsquo;s been running with since the V40 Pro and the T3 Ultra. It&rsquo;s different and it weirdly works. Two big camera lenses sit inside and just below that, you get the Aura ring light. Think of it as a built-in beauty light for your face &mdash; because why not?
Now, the phone is entirely plastic, but let&rsquo;s not be snobs. It doesn&rsquo;t feel cheap. There&rsquo;s a soft matte texture that actually makes it feel more premium than some glass backs trying too hard. The back does pick up some fingerprint smudges but they are hard to spot most of the time.
It&rsquo;s also 7.4mm thin and 186 grams, even with a massive 6,500mAh battery inside. That&rsquo;s borderline witchcraft. It feels super light, well-balanced, and sits in the hand like it&rsquo;s made to be scrolled endlessly on.
Ports and buttons are where you&rsquo;d expect &mdash; volume and power on the right, USB-C at the bottom, SIM tray, and yes, stereo speakers. It comes with IP68 and IP69 ratings, which means it can survive dust, a dunk in water.
And then there&rsquo;s the screen. Oh boy. This is a 6.77-inch quad-curved AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It&rsquo;s delightfully extra. Colours are bold but not cartoonish, blacks are OLED-deep, and everything &mdash; from doomscrolling to gaming &mdash; feels absurdly smooth.
The display hits 1,800 nits in High Brightness Mode, which means you can read your texts even under peak summer sun. Also, the quad-curved edges don&rsquo;t just look slick &mdash; they make the screen feel almost endless.
But thankfully, Vivo&rsquo;s software knows what&rsquo;s up: accidental touches are rare, so you&rsquo;re not rage-quitting games because your pinky brushed the curve.

Now, let&rsquo;s be real &mdash; this isn&rsquo;t the fastest chip in the segment. The benchmark numbers are decent, not jaw-dropping: 6,82,234 on AnTuTu, 1,031 in Geekbench single-core, and 2,978 in multi-core. So no, it won&rsquo;t win a drag race but it doesn&rsquo;t need to.
In real-world use, the V50e holds its own. It&rsquo;s smooth, responsive, and lag-free for the most part. Apps open fast, switching between them feels natural, and casual gaming is totally doable. I played a few rounds of BGMI at 60fps, and it held up impressively &mdash; no stutter, no overheating, just solid gameplay. Even Genshin Impact ran fairly well at medium settings, though you might hit the occasional hiccup when things get too magical.
What&rsquo;s surprising is how cool this phone stays &mdash; even after a gaming session or camera binge, it doesn&rsquo;t turn into a pocket toaster. So, while it's not built for heavy-duty mobile editing or marathon gaming, it&rsquo;ll glide through your daily scrolls, swipes, and reels just fine.

The Vivo V50e runs FunTouchOS 15, layered on top of Android 15, which sounds promising &mdash; but don&rsquo;t get your hopes up for a Pixel-like experience. If you&rsquo;ve used a Vivo phone in the past year, this will feel very familiar. Maybe too familiar.
It&rsquo;s not the cleanest UI around &mdash; bloatware still lives rent-free here, with a bunch of pre-installed apps that you&rsquo;ll probably spend your first 10 minutes uninstalling. But once you&rsquo;re past that, there&rsquo;s a lot to play with.
You get a fair amount of customisation options (themes, animations, widgets &mdash; the usual suspects) and some handy AI features like object remover in photos, instant translation, voice transcription, and Circle to Search. Overall, it&rsquo;s snappy, doesn&rsquo;t lag, and while it&rsquo;s not stock Android, it at least feels modern and light on its feet.

The Vivo V50e keeps things straightforward with a dual-camera setup on the back: a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide, all wrapped in that stylish &ldquo;bottle opener&rdquo; module with the upgraded Aura Light 2. For selfies, you get a 50MP front camera with autofocus, and yes, it&rsquo;s every bit as good as it sounds.
Let&rsquo;s start with the rear. Photos from the main sensor come out sharp, vibrant, and very Instagram-ready. Vivo&rsquo;s default &ldquo;Vivid&rdquo; mode punches up the colors a little &mdash; skies are bluer, trees are greener, and your food pics might look better than the actual food. If you prefer things less extra, switch to &ldquo;Natural&rdquo; mode and enjoy a more realistic color palette.
HDR is excellent, especially outdoors. It brings out detail in both skies and shadows without blowing out highlights. Indoors though, it&rsquo;s more of a mixed bag &mdash; photos are still usable, just not quite as punchy.
You also get Sony&rsquo;s Multifocal Pro Portrait system which includes three focal lengths to play with &mdash; 1x (26mm), 1.5x (39mm), and 2x (52mm). There&rsquo;s no dedicated telephoto lens, so it&rsquo;s all digital zoom magic, but it works surprisingly well.
Portraits look great, with crisp edge detection and pleasing bokeh.
Vivo&rsquo;s Aura Light adds a nice glow to low-light portraits, though in my testing, it&rsquo;s still no match for a proper flash. Night mode, however, is impressive &mdash; it lifts shadows, adds detail, and doesn&rsquo;t go overboard with the brightening.
The 8MP ultra-wide is decent for landscapes and group shots, though it tends to lose sharpness and color accuracy when the lights dim.
Now, let&rsquo;s talk about that front camera, because it honestly steals the show. The 50MP selfie cam with autofocus is one of the best I&rsquo;ve seen at this price point.
Selfies come out sharp, natural-looking, and most importantly, not overly smoothed &mdash; a rare win in this age of default beauty filters.

Also, a camera island this large is bound to be smudged all the time.

But, the colours tend to be saturated, even in &lsquo;Zeiss Natural&rsquo; mode.
The telephoto lens, however, is where this phone truly shines. The 200-megapixel sensor is capable of capturing incredible detail, even at 3.7x magnification, making it an excellent choice for portraits and zoom shots.&nbsp;
The 50MP ultrawide camera, while good, falls just short of the primary and telephoto sensors in terms of detail and colour reproduction. It's serviceable for wide-angle shots, but it doesn&rsquo;t quite deliver the same level of quality.&nbsp;
On the other hand, low-light performance is impressive. The X200 Pro handles low-light scenarios exceptionally well, with minimal noise and accurate colour rendering. Even in near-dark conditions, the detail levels are impressive, and the phone has little trouble maintaining colour accuracy.
Macro photography is another area where the X200 Pro excels. The detail captured in macro shots is unbelievable, showing that Vivo has really worked on fine-tuning the sensor for close-up shots.&nbsp;
The 32-megapixel front camera is decent but doesn&rsquo;t stand out. While it performs well during the day, at night, the skin tones tend to appear unnaturally softened, even with beauty modes turned off. It&rsquo;s not a dealbreaker, but it's a bit of a miss given the otherwise excellent camera system.
Video performance is equally impressive. The X200 Pro supports 4K 60fps HDR recording, along with 4K HDR Cinematic Portrait mode and 120fps slow-motion video. Whether you&rsquo;re recording a concert or a fast-moving subject, the X200 Pro&rsquo;s cameras will handle it with ease, capturing vibrant and stable footage.

This is the new Vivo T3 Ultra, or as we like to call it, the Vivo V40 Pro Fan Edition! It&rsquo;s got nearly all the same features as its high-end sibling, the same processor, display, and battery. The design is almost identical too.
The main difference is that The T3 Ultra doesn't get the fancier camera hardware and ditches the Zeiss partnership, which helps keep the price down. But is it worth the price, or should you splurge on the more premium V series? In this article, we'll compare the two options and help you decide which one is right for you.
<h3>Vivo T3 Ultra Camera</h3>
Let&rsquo;s start with the camera, because let&rsquo;s face it Vivo is known for its impressive camera tech. The Vivo T3 Ultra packs the same 50MP Sony IMX921 main camera with OIS as the Vivo V40 Pro. You also get an 8MP ultrawide and a flicker sensor designed to reduce flicker in videos.

Photos come out crisp and detailed, with vibrant colours thanks to some extra saturation, especially if you&rsquo;re shooting in Vivid mode. You can also switch to Textured or Natural mode.
HDR performance is top-notch, making bright skies look stunning and skin tones appear natural, though indoor shots are just okay, not quite up to the same level.
Portrait mode is impressive with its 2x zoom and accurate edge detection. check out how it keeps his beard in focus.
Vivo&rsquo;s Aura light feature adds extra illumination in low light, but in our testing, it didn&rsquo;t outperform a traditional flash. The Night mode, however, excels by pulling in more details in poor lighting, giving nighttime shots a noticeable boost.
The 8MP ultrawide performs decently for capturing broader scenes but may show some colour shift and average low-light performance. For video, the Vivo T3 Ultra records in 4K at 60fps with standard stabilisation, keeping shots smooth and detailed. For even smoother footage, you can opt for ultra stabilisation at 1080p/60fps.
The flicker sensor didn&rsquo;t make much of a difference in our testing, as flicker remains visible in video samples. On the plus side, the front-facing 50MP camera takes well-lit, detailed selfies.
<h3>Vivo T3 Ultra Performance</h3>
Now, let's talk about performance! The MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chip in the Vivo T3 Ultra is a souped-up version of the already solid MediaTek Dimensity 9200, which dropped last year.
With a 10% boost in CPU and GPU performance, the 4nm octa-core chip makes the T3 Ultra one of the fastest in its class.
It even edged out the more expensive Vivo V40 Pro in Antutu, which uses the same chipset, and slightly outperformed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3-powered Moto Edge 50 Ultra, a phone that costs ₹55,000.
In real-world use, everything is smooth&mdash;scrolling, swiping, and app-switching are seamless without lag. Gaming is great too -- BGMI runs at 60fps flawlessly, Call of Duty Mobile hits 120fps, and Genshin Impact, one of the most demanding games, runs well for the most part but causes slight warming and minor frame drops after about 30 minutes.
Now, the model we used comes with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, but just note you don&rsquo;t get any storage expansion here.
<h3>Vivo T3 Ultra Software</h3>
On the software side, the Vivo T3 Ultra runs Android 14 with Vivo&rsquo;s Funtouch OS 14. There are pre-loaded apps, but most can be removed. Look, in our honest opinion, Funtouch OS gets a worse rap than it deserves; it offers plenty of multi-tasking and customization options. Once you get the hang of it, it&rsquo;s fine to use.&nbsp;
Plus, Vivo offers 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security patches, pretty standard for this price. However, the OnePlus Nord 4 offers 4 years of Android updates and 6 years of security updates, so we would've liked to see Vivo match that.
<h3>Vivo T3 Ultra Design</h3>
Design-wise, the T3 Ultra is almost a carbon copy of the Vivo V40 Pro. With symmetric curves on both sides, it feels great in hand. At 7.58mm thick, it claims to be the thinnest phone with a 5500mAh battery.
But seriously, who&rsquo;s asking for thinner phones? A bit more thickness usually makes phones easier to hold. Still, Vivo nailed the design balance, the T3 Ultra looks pretty sleek and is also lightweight. That means you can keep those long chats going with your girlfriend without a wrist ache.
The camera module is also straight from the V40 Pro. But it works&mdash;it looks cool, almost like a bottle opener that adds to the overall design.&nbsp;
Vivo&rsquo;s choice of subtle colours is a nice touch. We have the frost green variant, which has a refreshing minty vibe, but if you prefer something neutral, there&rsquo;s a grey option too. The frame is plastic, but the buttons are very tactile and easy to press.
The glass back features a matte finish that resists fingerprints, though it is slightly slippery&mdash;a minor issue easily solved by using the included case.
For durability, both sides are protected by Schott Xensation glass. While we&rsquo;re not certain it&rsquo;s stronger than Gorilla Glass, we&rsquo;ve dropped the phone a few times without any scratches. Plus, as mentioned earlier, this phone is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, which is impressive to see in this price range.
It&rsquo;s great that brands like Vivo and Motorola are bringing such premium features to the mid-range segment. The phone includes stereo speakers that deliver good output. There&rsquo;s even an audio booster mode that can amplify call volume to 200%, which is handy in noisy environments.
<h3>Vivo T3 Ultra Display</h3>
The display is another highlight. It sports a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4500 nits, making it easily visible even under direct sunlight. It supports HDR on YouTube, so everything looks fantastic but unfortunately, Netflix has yet to make use of it.
The colours are quite accurate by default, but there&rsquo;s plenty of customisation available in the settings if you want to tweak the look. You get three main profiles to choose from but we stuck with the &lsquo;Professional&rsquo; mode since it gave the most neutral and natural colours.
Our main issue with the display is the pronounced side curves, which lead to reflections and colour shifts at certain angles. Additionally, the in-display fingerprint scanner, while quick, is positioned a bit too low on a phone with such a large screen.
<h3>Vivo T3 Ultra Battery</h3>
Finally, let's quickly talk about battery and charging. The Vivo T3 Ultra supports 80W fast charging, and the charger comes right in the box.
You can go from zero to full in just about 52 minutes and with the 5500mAh battery, you&rsquo;ll get around 9 hours of screen time on mixed-use, which is really good. And even though some competitors offer faster charging, this setup ensures you won&rsquo;t be scrambling for a charger often.

Ok, so, here&rsquo;s the answer to the question we started with: Should you go for the Vivo T3 Ultra or the Vivo V40 Pro?
If you&rsquo;re looking for a well-balanced phone with solid camera performance, the Vivo T3 Ultra is a great choice, it really hits the sweet spot.
But if you&rsquo;re all about the camera and don&rsquo;t mind spending a bit more, the V40 Pro offers impressive versatility.

Sure, you could say the same about its predecessors, but the X100 Pro adds something extra special &ndash; a 100mm periscope telephoto camera with a floating lens.
This lets you focus on both close-up subjects and those far away, making it incredibly versatile.

Besides the zoom, the X100 Pro also packs a main camera that's decked out with all the bells and whistles you'd want to see on a flagship.
It's got an oversized 1-inch Sony IMX 989 sensor, optical image stabilization, dual-pixel phase detection autofocus, and laser autofocus.&nbsp;
The wide f/1.8 aperture allows for a shallower depth of field, and there&rsquo;s picture processing handled by a dedicated V3 imaging chip.
Then you have the ultrawide camera, which features autofocus and a 119-degree field of view. However, the best part is that all three cameras I've mentioned &ndash; the periscope, the main, and the ultrawide &ndash; boast a generous 50MP resolution.

<h3>Vivo X100 Pro Camera Performance&nbsp;</h3>
In well-lit conditions, the main camera captures crisp photos with excellent dynamic range and vibrant colours. But, if you prefer more colour accuracy, there's the option to switch on the Zeiss Natural Colour mode, which offers more neutral tones. &nbsp;
Even when zoomed in to 2x, the image quality stays consistent, with no noticeable increase in noise compared to the 1x zoom.
Night photography is exceptional too, and the main camera does a great job of brightening up the darker areas in photos. Interestingly enough, the phone has both an auto night mode and a dedicated night mode you can switch on manually.&nbsp;
I found that turning off the &lsquo;dim light&rsquo; feature didn&rsquo;t make a huge difference in colour and brightness, but photos taken with &lsquo;dim light&rsquo; on were a bit over-sharpened and had more noticeable noise in them.&nbsp;
I also took some samples with the dedicated night mode and while it&rsquo;s better at reducing noise, it tends to add an annoying blue tint to every picture. &nbsp;
Despite these quirks, this phone remains my top choice for capturing low-light shots. The large sensor size also means that it behaves a bit more like a DSLR camera, offering a shallower depth of field, even without using the portrait mode.
Speaking of portraits, I've got to say that the X100 Pro has quickly become my go-to camera phone for capturing them. Shots look very natural and lively with near-accurate skin tones. At times, the background blur can be a bit aggressive, but you can adjust that easily enough.&nbsp;
Plus, you have five focal lengths to choose from - 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 100mm. The first four are courtesy of the main camera, while the 100mm is provided by the periscope telephoto lens.&nbsp;
I found the 85mm length perfect for getting the best results, but I was also quite taken with the portraits at 100mm. You'll get the same high-quality representation of your subject as the main camera but with some extra depth and warmer colours. It's amazing how much distance it covers while maintaining quality.
And this brings me to the Vivo X100 Pro's zoom capabilities. It might not have the 10x optical range of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but its 4.3x optical zoom is quite remarkable in its own right.
The images are sharp, the colours are lovely, and the dynamic range is spot-on. It also performs very well up to a 10x digital zoom, capturing superb shots without significant loss in detail.
The close-up shooting capabilities of this periscope camera are outstanding as well. It offers significant magnification, ensuring a high level of clarity, and creates a distinct separation between the subject and the background. &nbsp;
For even closer shots, the periscope lens doubles as a macro shooter with an 18cm focus distance, allowing you to capture fine details without being too close to the subject, and it supports up to 8.6X zoom.
&nbsp;As for the ultra-wide camera, I'm mostly happy with what it delivers. Its 119-degree field of view isn't the widest I've seen on a smartphone, and there's a bit of distortion near the edges, but overall, the results are pretty good.
Another exciting feature is the ability to shoot 4K cinematic portrait videos using both the main and periscope cameras, a first for a Vivo phone. This is made possible by the new V3 imaging chip, resulting in very crisp edge detection.&nbsp;
The phone is capable of 8K video recording too, though it's limited to the main camera and tends to eat up a lot of storage space. Sticking to 4K at 60FPS might be more practical, and the good news is, it's available on all three cameras.
You can effortlessly switch between the ultra-wide, main, and periscope lenses, even zooming up to 10x, all while maintaining a smooth 60 frames per second in a single continuous video. This feature makes the X100 Pro an excellent choice for vloggers who might require this kind of versatility in their recordings.
There's also an ultra-stabilization video mode, which is very stable even when you're running. However, this mode is limited to 1080P and can only be used with the main camera.
But in many cases, you might not even need this mode, as the regular stabilization works perfectly fine, thanks to all three sensors being capable of shooting smooth 4K 60 FPS videos. Night time shooting isn't too bad either and the T* star &nbsp;anti reflective lens coating on the cameras helps in reducing flairs to some extent.&nbsp;
Alright, now let's move on to the front Camera. It sports a 32MP sensor and does a fair job of capturing pictures in both outdoor and indoor settings, and the edge detection in portrait mode is quite decent as well.&nbsp;
While skin colours might not be spot-on accurate and there's a slight shortfall in sharpness, the front camera still churns out respectable selfies. It's a bit of a letdown, though, that a phone of this calibre with such powerful hardware, doesn't support 4K video recording on the front camera.
<h3>Vivo X100 Pro Design</h3>
The first thing you'll notice about the Vivo X100, which I've mentioned before, is its huge camera module, which takes up a significant portion of the back, making the phone a bit awkward to hold as the bump shifts your grip downwards.
On the plus side, the camera module is now centrally positioned, unlike the off-centre bump on the X90 Pro from last year. This lends a more symmetrical look to the design and reduces wobbling when the phone is placed on a flat surface.&nbsp;
That said, I do find myself missing the vegan leather design of the X90 Pro, which offered a better grip. The X100 Pro opts for frosted glass, which, although smudge-proof can be slippery. Thankfully, Vivo includes a rubber case in the box that has provided sufficient protection and grip during my use.
Overall, this phone looks very premium. The polished metal frame and the curved edges contribute to its upscale vibe. And even though it is on the heavier side, weighing in at 225g, it's got a sturdy feel to it. There's also IP68 dust and water resistance here, so it can handle a bit of rough weather or accidental splashes.

This setup puts the X100 Pro on par with last year's X90 Pro, which had a pretty fantastic screen.
So, it's great to see that the X100 Pro maintains this high-quality display, and even enhances it with LTPO technology for better battery efficiency.
It's a great screen for watching content too, &nbsp;and the well-tuned stereo speakers further elevate the viewing and listening experience.&nbsp;
Vivo's also cranked up the brightness big time, claiming a peak of 3000 nits. If I'm being honest, I didn't find it blindingly bright in everyday use, but it's enough to keep things clear and visible when I'm out and about in the sun.
<h3>Vivo X100 Pro Specifications (Hardware)&nbsp;</h3>
Trying out the Vivo X100 Pro with MediaTek's latest Dimensity 9300 chipset has been quite enjoyable. Day-to-day usage is snappy, and it can handle graphic-intensive games at the highest settings without getting too hot.&nbsp;
In terms of benchmarks, it's a bit behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 , but honestly, in real-world situations, you'd hardly notice any difference. Plus, with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage and a solid 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, this phone is all set for speed and storage.
<h3>Vivo X100 Pro software</h3>
On the software side, the X100 Pro runs on Android 14, with Vivo&rsquo;s FunTouch OS on top. FunTouch OS remains largely unchanged from its previous versions and while it's not the most streamlined Android skin around, it is quite feature-rich and functional.&nbsp;
However, there is quite a bit of bloatware, and some apps can't even be disabled, which is a bit disappointing for a phone in this price range. Vivo has also promised that X100 Pro will get 3 years of assured Android updates, which isn't too bad, but I'm hoping they'll soon catch up with brands like Google, who are currently offering up to five years of updates.
<h3>Vivo X100 Pro Battery</h3>
One of the more significant upgrades for the X100 Pro is the boost in battery capacity to 5,400mAh, a jump from the X90 Pro's 4,870mAh. &nbsp;It's not every day you see a battery that beefy, especially compared to the usual 5,000mAh ones out there.&nbsp;
And honestly, I'm not complaining &ndash; this larger battery comfortably supports all-day use, which in my testing included 4K video recording, binge-watching TV shows, and even some gaming.
The charging capabilities are just as impressive. Vivo packs a 120W charger in the box, though the phone itself supports 100W charging via USB-C.
This translates to a full battery charge in just half an hour, and a quick 15-minute charge can get you over 50% battery life. It also supports wireless charging at 50W, but to enjoy those high speeds, you'll need to use Vivo's proprietary wireless charger.

And sure, it comes with a hefty price tag, but that's the cost of owning what's arguably the best camera phone as we step into the new year.

'Closely following developments': China on arrest of Vivo staff in India

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing on Monday that China is closely following the issue.

China on Monday said it will provide consular protection and assistance to the arrested employees working for China's smartphone maker Vivo in India and expressed its firm backing to the Chinese business in protecting their lawful rights and interests.
The Enforcement Directorate last week arrested three vivo-India executives in connection with its money laundering probe against the Chinese smartphone maker and some others.
Asked for her reaction to the arrests, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing here on Monday that China is closely following the issue.
&ldquo;The Chinese embassy and consulates in India will continue to provide consular protection and assistance to the individuals concerned in accordance with the law,&rdquo; she said.
&ldquo;The Chinese government firmly supports Chinese businesses in safeguarding their lawful rights and interests. We hope that India will fully recognise the mutually beneficial nature of the business cooperation between our two countries and provide a fair, just, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment,&rdquo; she said.
Interim CEO of vivo-India Hong Xuquan alias Terry -- a Chinese national -- Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Harinder Dahiya and consultant Hemant Munjal have been taken into custody under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The federal agency had earlier made four arrests in the case which included mobile company Lava International's MD Hari Om Rai, Chinese national Guangwen alias Andrew Kuang and chartered accountants Nitin Garg and Rajan Malik. They are in judicial custody at present.
