Announced on Friday, this MoU, effective from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2027, encapsulates comprehensive agreements regarding player salaries and the modernization of terms and conditions throughout the West Indies cricket infrastructure.
Central to this agreement is the ambition to establish equal pay for players in several key areas, including international and regional match fees, captain allowances, team prize money, and individual award compensation by October 1, 2027. This initiative places the West Indies alongside other cricketing nations like India, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and England, which have recently taken strides towards eliminating pay disparities between male and female players.
Moreover, this move comes in the wake of the International Cricket Council (ICC) setting a precedent last year for prize money equality at its tournaments, signaling a broader shift towards gender parity in sports. The wicketkeeper-batter opened up on his journey and said that being an Indian cricketer is challenging.
'I have played domestic cricket for the last 8-9 years and for India, here and there, so it gives you a bit of understanding of playing in different positions. It is the number of overs you get and it is not about batting position so you have to prepare accordingly,' Samson told the host broadcaster after the conclusion of ODI series vs West Indies.
The 28-year-old got out cheaply in the 2nd ODI but scored a fluent half-century in the final one day game.
'It feels really great to spend some time in the middle, score some runs and contribute for your country,' Samson added.

The two England stalwarts took advantage of the below-par West Indies total of 135/7 to launch a concerted effort when they came together at the crease, finishing the match in the 15th over, with Sciver-Brunt scoring an unbeaten 40 and Knight remaining not out at 32.
While West Indies were not really off to a poor start after electing to bat, their batting floundered in the middle overs with no one able to give them the push in the death overs.
Skipper Hayley Matthews scored a quick-fire 42 (32 balls) at the top of the order, while Shemaine Campbelle made a laboured 34 as West Indies moved to a modest 69 for 2 at the start of the 11th over.

The board appointed a 3-member panel consisting of former cricketers Brian Lara, Mickey Arthur, and a senior judge Patrick Thomson to probe the Windies' early exit from last year's T20 World Cup.&nbsp; The report of the review group which was made public on Thursday pointed out that West Indies cricket will cease to exist if players represent the nation on an optional basis and instead take part in lucrative T20 leagues across the world.
Nicholas Pooran-led side began their campaign Down Under with losses to Scotland and Ireland. This was their 2nd poor performance on the World stage 2021 T20 WC. The review group highlighted how the players who had appreciable performances in franchise T20 leagues were constantly not making themselves available for the national team selection. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine did not make themselves available for the T20 World Cup.
