      Menopause is an indicator that discloses the end of menstrual cycles. It can happen between the age group of 40-50 years. Estrogen and progesterone are the two hormones that control menstruation and ovulation. When ovaries no longer release an egg every month, menstruation stops. It is a regular part of aging and it can happen after the age of 40.

      All you need to know about Menopause

      • Changes in the monthly cycles of women is called the menopausal transition
      • Some women can go through early menopause because of surgery, removal of ovaries or damage of ovaries from Chemotherapy
      • Menopause is a time 12 months after a woman’s last period. This brings a change in body shape and weight
      • After menopause, women enter the postmenopause phase. Postmenopausal women are at risk of heart diseases and bone health issues
      • It is suggested to take a healthy diet, live an active lifestyle, and supplement your diet with multivitamins and calcium for optimal bone health
      • Menopausal transition can bring along hot flashes, uneven or missed period, moodiness, irritability, changes in libido & troubled sleep

      Ways to reduce menopause symptoms as suggested by Dr. Rita Bakshi:

      • Keeping cool and wearing comfortable outfits can help in managing hot flashes
      • Exercising and reducing calorie intake can help in managing body weight, boost energy levels and improve sleep patterns
      • Practice yoga and meditation to keep your mind relaxed. Reduce alcohol intake and smoking
      • Include calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D to keep the risk of osteoporosis at bay
      • Natural supplements like soy, flaxseed, vitamin E may also relieve menopause symptoms
      • Clearly communicate your needs and feelings like anxiety, mood swings and insomnia to your physician
