Tokyo Olympics 2020: PM Modi, President Kovind & Rahul Gandhi laud Indian Hockey team

As India scripted history with an Olympic medal in hockey for the first time in 41 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted to congratulate the team.

Calling it a 'historic day', Narendra Modi tweeted, "Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for bringing home the Bronze. With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our Hockey team."

India beat four-time champion Germany to add one more bronze this season on Thursday.

"The team showed exceptional skills, resilience & determination to win," President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted. He mentioned that this historic victory will start a new era in hockey and will inspire the youth to take up and excel in the sport.

Union sports minister Anurag Thakur said the team dominated and defined their destiny in the Olympic history books. "A billion cheers for India. Our men's hockey team has done it. We are extremely proud of the hockey team," the minister said.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also congratulated the team and called it a big moment.
