Let&rsquo;s start with Asian equity markets &ndash; It was a sea of green in Asia as investors heaved a sigh of relief following some positive data cues from the US economy. Initial jobless claims in the US slipped, and the second-quarter GDP reading was revised higher to three percent. This led to a relief rally in Asia, where Hong Kong&rsquo;s Hang Seng surged by over one percent. China&rsquo;s Shanghai Composite and Japan&rsquo;s Nikkei were also up by around seven-tenths of a percent each. Back home, the Sensex and the Nifty ended higher for the third consecutive week. Both indices also surged to lifetime highs during the session, with the Sensex soaring to 82,637 and the Nifty rising to 25,268. While the two indices closed off those highs, they ended higher for the twelfth straight session. Cipla and Bajaj Finance were the key Nifty gainers, up by over two percent each. Tata Motors was the biggest laggard, down by one percent in Friday&rsquo;s trade. In stock-specific action, SpiceJet slipped by almost six percent in today&rsquo;s session and closed at 62.5 rupees apiece. The airline is facing turbulent times and is sending 150 cabin crew members on leave without pay for three months. Meanwhile, aviation regulator DGCA has placed the airline under enhanced surveillance. This means it will see increased spot checks and night surveillance to ensure the safety of its operations. While SpiceJet has hit an air pocket, the Tatas have a reason to cheer &ndash; The government has cleared Singapore Airlines&rsquo; FDI proposal for the merger of Vistara with Air India. Following this nod, Vistara informed its passengers that Vistara flights will only operate until the 11th of November. From the 12th of November, all flights of the merged entity will be operated as Air India. Bookings for these flights will also have to be made via the Air India website and app. Shifting focus to the policy space &ndash; The GST Council is likely to exempt term life insurance from the Goods and Services Tax when it meets on the 9th of September. According to a Moneycontrol report, quoting an unnamed government official, the decision could be formalised at the upcoming GST Council meeting. Stock markets continued their downward decline on Friday, falling around half a percent amid the escalating geopolitical tensions. Tensions between Israel and Iran have increased in the past few weeks, which has kept global markets on edge. Following reports of an explosion in Iran, Asian markets also saw significant losses.

At 10am on Friday, Sensex lost 0.52% or 379 points to trade at 72,109 and the Nifty was 0.44% or 97 points lower at 21,898. The fall in shares of Infosys Ltd., Larsen &amp; Toubro Ltd., and HDFC Bank Ltd. pressured the indices further. All the Nifty IT stocks declined on Friday.
As per Fars News agency, early morning on Friday explosion was heard in Iran's Isfahan city, which is one of the launch site for the missile and drone attack on Israel by Iran. Following this the US equity futures fell in early Asian trading while the oil prices resumed a selloff and investors retreated to the dollar.
On Thursday, the markets extended losses for the fourth straight session with Sensex tanking 454.69 points or 0.62% to settle at 72,488.99 while Nifty plunged 152.05 points or 0.69% to 21,995.85.

Stock markets took a beating on Monday with benchmark Sensex and Nifty tumbling over 1 per cent as escalating conflict in the Middle East and weak trends from global markets unnerved investors.
Extending losses to the second session, the 30-share BSE Sensex tanked 845.12 points or 1.14 per cent to settle at a more than two-week low of 73,399.78. During the day, it plunged 929.74 points or 1.25 per cent to 73,315.16.
The NSE Nifty declined 246.90 points or 1.10 per cent to finish at 22,272.50.
Key indices had plunged by over 1 per cent in the previous session on Friday due to profit taking by investors at record high levels. Sensex lost 1,638 points or 2.19 per cent while Nifty plunged 481 points or 2.13 per cent to slip below the 22,300 level in two straight sessions.
Foreign fund outflows and hotter-than-expected US inflation data also played spoilsport for the markets.
Analysts said the renewed conflict in the Middle East, proposed changes in the India-Mauritius tax treaty and the hotter-than-expected US inflation proved to be major drags.
From the Sensex basket, Wipro, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Tech Mahindra and HDFC Bank were the major laggards.
Nestle, Maruti and Bharti Airtel were the gainers.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong settled lower while Shanghai ended in the positive territory. European markets were trading on a mixed note. Wall Street ended significantly lower on Friday.
"Geopolitical tensions and higher-than-expected US inflation impacted investor sentiment and dragged the indices to a lower note. The major casualties were the mid- and small-cap indices due to their rich valuation and expectation of moderation in earnings growth in Q4FY24.
"On the other hand, the European market opened on a positive note while oil prices inched lower as market participants expected that the diplomatic efforts were likely to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.

Sensex opened 381 points, or 0.51%, higher at 75,124, while the NSE&rsquo;s Nifty 50 surged 98 points, or 0.44%, to open at 22,765 on Tuesday. Broader markets also supported the rally as the Nifty Midcap 100 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 indices gained over 0.3% each.

&ldquo;After a stellar FY24, Indian equity markets continue to march higher into new territory. Hopes of a favourable outcome from the ensuing general elections and the subsequent policy thrust are keeping sentiments upbeat. The announcements of encouraging monthly/yearly data and some operational / order announcements by companies are attracting stock-specific buying," Dhiraj Relli, MD &amp; CEO at HDFC Securities told Mint.
Globally, the Asian markets traded higher while the US stock market ended flat overnight.

Extending its winning momentum to the third day running, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 556.98 points to 74,208.33 in early trade. The NSE Nifty climbed 192.1 points to 22,519.
Later, the BSE Sensex reached its all-time high of 74,254.62 and the NSE Nifty hit the lifetime peak of 22,529.95.
From the Sensex basket, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, and Larsen &amp; Toubro were the major gainers.
In Asian markets, Seoul and Shanghai were quoting in the green while Tokyo traded lower.
Wall Street ended on a mixed note on Thursday.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 188.31 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.37 per cent to USD 87.32 a barrel.
"The undertone of the market is bullish and there is momentum in the market," Geojit Financial Services Chief Investment Strategist V K Vijayakumar said.
Equity markets were closed on Friday for Good Friday.
The BSE benchmark jumped 655.04 points, or 0.90 per cent, to settle at 73,651.35 on Thursday. The NSE Nifty climbed 203.25 points, or 0.92 per cent, to end at 22,326.90.

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty rallied for the second straight session on Thursday to end the 2023-24 fiscal on a bullish note, powered by across-the-board buying amid a bullish trend in global equities.
Power, auto and metal stocks witnessed robust demand, even as a depreciating rupee weighed on sentiment, traders said.
Extending its previous day's rally, the 30-share index jumped 655.04 points or 0.90 per cent to settle at 73,651.35. During the day, it zoomed 1,194 points or 1.63 per cent to 74,190.31.
The NSE Nifty climbed 203.25 points or 0.92 per cent to end at 22,326.90.
On a weekly basis, the BSE benchmark climbed 819.41 points or 1.12 per cent, and the NSE Nifty advanced 230.15 points or 1.04 per cent.
In the 2023-24 financial year, Sensex jumped 14,659.83 points or 24.85 per cent, while the Nifty soared 4,967.15 points or 28.61 per cent.
"Indian equities closed the day and fiscal year on an optimistic note, with volatility by the end of the session, as buying by retails, DIIs, and FIIs surged across categories. The mid-and small-cap stocks have emerged as frontrunners, rebounding from the initial sell-off earlier in the month.
"An upgrade in the domestic economy forecast hints at an encouraging outlook for the stock market in FY25. However, the emphasis is on large-cap due to the persisting premium valuations of mid-cap stocks, which could pose a concern on the broad market in the short to medium term," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said.
Bajaj Finserv was the top gainer in the Sensex chart, rising nearly 4 per cent, followed by Nestle, State Bank of India, Power Grid, Tata Steel, Larsen &amp; Toubro and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra.
Shares of Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv jumped amid media reports that subsidiary Bajaj Housing Finance was planning to go public.
Nestle, State Bank of India, Power Grid, Tata Steel, Larsen &amp; Toubro and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were the other major gainers.
In contrast, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank and Reliance Industries were the laggards.
In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge jumped 0.62 per cent and smallcap index climbed 0.33 per cent.
All indices ended in the positive territory. Power jumper 1.69 per cent, capital goods rallied 1.54 per cent, utilities (1.29 per cent), auto (1.19 per cent), healthcare (1.18 per cent), industrials (1.12 per cent), commodities (0.95 per cent), consumer discretionary (0.94 per cent) and telecommunication (0.64 per cent).
"Market extended gains and almost retested the record high, tracking favourable cues. After the initial uptick, Nifty moved from strength to strength for most of the session. However, a sharp dip in the final hour trimmed the gains," Ajit Mishra, SVP - Technical Research, Religare Broking Ltd.
In Asian markets, Shanghai and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory while Tokyo and Seoul ended lower.
European markets were trading mostly in the green. Wall Street ended higher on Wednesday. The S&amp;P 500 climbed 0.9 per cent to a record 5,248.49 in its first gain since setting its last all-time high on March 21.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 2,170.32 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
The rupee depreciated 6 paise to settle at 83.39 against the US dollar on Thursday.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.42 per cent to USD 86.40 a barrel.
The BSE benchmark climbed 526.01 points or 0.73 per cent to settle at 72,996.31 on Wednesday. The NSE Nifty went up by 118.95 points or 0.54 per cent to 22,123.65.

The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 159.18 points to reach an all-time peak of 74,245.17 in early trade. The Nifty went up by 49.6 points to 22,523.65.
However, later the markets turned volatile and both the benchmark indices were trading between highs and lows.
Among the Sensex firms, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Asian Paints and State Bank of India were the major gainers.
Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Infosys, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were among the laggards.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading lower.
The US markets ended in the positive territory on Wednesday.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 2,766.75 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
"There are some distinct trends in the market now. One, largecaps are outperforming mid and smallcaps. Two, Bank Nifty is emerging stronger led by private sector majors like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Bank. Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty surged over 1 per cent to hit their fresh all-time highs on Friday, driven by a stellar rally in IT stocks after TCS and Infosys reported better-than-expected financial results.
Besides, a strengthening rupee and hectic buying on tech, realty and oil counters amid a mixed trend in global markets further bolstered sentiment, traders said.
The 30-share BSE Sensex zoomed 847.27 points or 1.18 per cent to settle at a new closing high of 72,568.45. During the day, it jumped 999.78 points or 1.39 per cent to reach a new intra-day record of 72,720.96.
A total of 2,112 stocks advanced, while 1,742 declined and 88 remained unchanged on the BSE.
The Nifty climbed 247.35 points or 1.14 per cent to settle at a lifetime closing high of 21,894.55. During the day, it rallied 281.05 points or 1.29 per cent to reach its fresh intra-day record peak of 21,928.25.
On a weekly basis, the BSE benchmark jumped 542.3 points or 0.75 per cent, and the Nifty climbed 183.75 points or 0.84 per cent.
"Indian markets soared to new heights in a powerful rally, driven by IT heavyweights. Green shoots of recovery in the IT sector on the back of an improved outlook for BFSI in FY25 positively influenced market sentiments. The robust performance of PSU banking stocks is underscored by the inherent synergy between their loan portfolios and the prevailing business cycle.
"Noteworthy is the fact that this upward surge remained resilient amid mixed global cues on account of higher-than-expected US inflation and positive job data, which tempered expectations for an imminent rate cut by the US Fed," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.
Infosys jumped nearly 8 per cent after the company's December quarter earnings came in line with market expectations.
"Infosys reported broadly in-line performance for the quarter. The revenue growth was above estimates; while EBIT margin was in line with expectation," according to a report by YES Securities.

Benchmark Sensex declined by 379 points on Tuesday due to profit-taking in bank and IT shares after recent sharp gains and fresh foreign fund outflows.
The 30-share BSE Sensex fell by 379 points or 0.53 per cent to settle at 71,892. During the day, it tumbled 658 points or 0.91 per cent to a low of 71,615.
The broader Nifty declined by 76 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 21,666. As many as 31 Nifty shares declined while 19 advanced.
Among the Sensex firms, Kotak Mahindra Bank, UltraTech Cement, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Larsen &amp; Toubro, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, Wipro and Hindustan Unilever were the major laggards.
Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv and Titan were among the winners.

The NSE Nifty rallied 98.80 points or 0.51 per cent to end at a new record high of 19,497.30. In intra-day, it advanced 113.7 points or 0.58 per cent to reach its all-time intra-day peak of 19,512.20.

The 30-share BSE index zoomed 466.95 points or 0.74 per cent to settle at a record closing high of 63,384.58. During the day, it rallied 602.73 points or 0.95 per cent to 63,520.36.
The NSE Nifty climbed 137.90 points or 0.74 per cent to end at its lifetime peak of 18,826.
Buying in index major Reliance Industries and HDFC twins also helped the markets to rebound.
Bajaj Finserv was the biggest gainer in the Sensex pack, rising 2.21 per cent, followed by Titan, ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, HDFC, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, HUL, Reliance Industries and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra.
