NFT Alert! Original source code for the internet sells for $5.4 million

The original source code for the World Wide Web that was written by its inventor Tim Berners-Lee was sold at an Sotheby’s NFT auction for $5.4 million.

The NFT auction at Sotheby's began on 23 June, with an opening bid of $1,000 but a flurry of bidding on the last day saw the final price jump to $5.4 million. So what does the anonymous owner get as part of this digital token?

The work includes the original archive of dated and time-stamped files from 1990 and 1991, containing 9,555 lines of source code and original HTML documents that taught the earliest web users how to use the application. The non-fungible token also includes an animated 30-minute video of the code being written and a digital signature from Berners-Lee himself.
